“ I remember when I first discovered Maruta Shoten. It was pre pandemic. I would always drive passed and was always curious to know what this place was. I decided to walk in one day and to my surprise it was one of those gems I only told a select few people about. It was great then and is still great even now. What is it? It's a local Japanese market that carries a variety of Japanese goods and groceries. Some you may find at other local groceries and some you may find at Asian specific markets. As well as food for take out. What I mainly go here for? I come for the ready made/packaged food and take out as well as their hot bar. More specificly if you're into sushi like sashimi, nigiri, and rolls. If you're into bentos and dons( rice bowls with accoutrements) The quality of the food is satisfyingly good in relation to the time it takes to get your food, pay and leave to be on your merry way. My go to items to get here are the packages nigiri to go as well as the packaged aburi salmon sushi to go. I do recommend coming around noon or slightly earlier. Try to make it before the rush to increase your chances of a better selection. It's risky but they do have a happy hour near close in where they discount the remaining items. You just might be disappointed at your options. ”
“ What a great hidden gem in Georgetown. If you happen to be in the area Monday through Friday after five, the sushi is half off but note that if you come at 5:05 there likely won't be very many options left. Has many Japanese goodies for sale and deli food as well. ”
“ I am absolutely obsessed with maruta! This small Japanese business has my heart and stomach. It reminds me of the mom and pop stores I grew up eating from in Hawaii and they have such a big variety of bentos, rolls, and hot foods to choose from. My mom is a huge fan of their California rolls that come in such a big portion! We get pretty full with their affordable and large portion sizes of foods. At 4:30pm, they sell their food at 50% off which is a steal and is so convenient to pick up after work. They also sell other things like ramen, condiments/toppings, drinks, and so much more. ”
“ go early and beat the rush (12-1pm) so you can get what you want. i don't really understands the negative reviews about the selection since they're a smaller store they can't keep rotating things out later in the day. for the price, you can't really beat it. for the best value and variety, get the chirashi if it's available! i'm actually not a huge fan of their hot foods in the fridge section. i would much rather get any of the sashimi options. i haven't tried getting fresh hot food but i heard good things about the kaarage. ”
“ a bang for your buck!!! this is part deli and part grocery store, so it's a grab and go type situation. no seats so be prepared to eat in your car or at a park nearby! definitely come early because if you don't beat the lunch rush (around noon to one) there wont be a lot of options left to choose from. they have boxes of sashimi, some assorted sushi, california rolls, bento boxes, and some sides. they also have some poke as well as a hot bar with fried items like karaage, croquette, and also musubis and other bowls. their fish is fresh and sold at such a good price, it's hard to beat! ”
“ Solid all around. I enjoy their sushi and hot bar regularly. Big portions for the price. Fresh ingredients. They sell a ton of sushi - it's made and sold quickly. Friendly staff. A great neighborhood market to get sushi, rice, chicken, drinks, and random groceries. ”
“ Whoa, they have some great snacks here. Fried chicken and Kimbap? Get some. Made fresh and I think they are addictive. Affordable, especially if you turn them into dinner. A secret eats place in Seattle! ”
“ This little market is a gem and so nostalgic of the markets I grew up with. There is a huge selection of Japanese goods and priced really well. If you go to the right of the market, you'll see all the fresh food many sushi options to choose from. The service was also fantastic. They were very friendly ask if I need a chopsticks and my entire meal plus groceries came out to under $30. ”
